Signs of spring.
Monday, March 1, 2010 at 4:37AM The signs are all around us here, despite the snow that has covered the ground for nearly a month. Under that snow, the snowdrops and tiny yellow lawn flowers whose names I always forget must be getting ready to shoot. The branches are lengthening out, reddening and greening and gathering into bud. Suddenly the silhouettes of tree branches are fuzzy at their tips.

Dr S: In fact, I saw my first set of snowdrops blooming this weekend, a scraggly bunch around the side of my house, under the overhang, where I was tromping to inspect another discovery of the long-awaited beginning thaw -- my suddenly leaking roof.
In the middle of last week, though, I was amazed to see a robin. He was at least as scruffy as these snowdrops are scraggly. I wanted to tell him if he came here for the spring, he was misinformed...
Where I'm at, the sign of spring appeared this morning, in the form of the first appearance of the bicycle rickshaws (to ferry tourists around) in the cathedral plaza.
